Wollemi Pine - Your Chance to help!

The Wollemi Pine is one of the world's oldest and rarest plants dating back to the time of the dinosaurs. With less than 100 adult trees known to exist in the wild, the Wollemi Pine is now the focus of extensive research to safeguard its survival. Assist in the conservation effort by growing your own Wollemi Pine and becoming part of one of the most dramatic comebacks in natural history.

The Wollemi Pine belongs to the 200 million-year-old Araucariacea plant family. It was known from fossil records and presumed extinct until it was discovered in 1994 by a bushwalker in the Wollemi National Park just outside Sydney. Dubbed the botanical find of the century, the Wollemi Pine is now the focus of extensive research to conserve this ancient species – and now you can help!

Horticultural experts believe that growing the Wollemi Pine in pots or in gardens and parks everywhere is one of the best forms of insurance against loss in the wild.

The Wollemi Pine, the ultimate survivor, is proving to be hardy and versatile in cultivation. It is not only attractive and striking in appearance, it is easy to grow and low maintenance. It will adapt to a diverse range of climatic zones, thriving in full sun to semi-shaded outdoor positions.

It is a stunning feature tree for large gardens and parklands. It can be maintained in a pot almost indefinitely, so is well suited to patios, verandahs and courtyards. It can also be used as indoor decoration in well lit areas as it is able to tolerate air-conditioning.

As royalties from Wollemi Pine sales will fund ongoing conservation research, buying a Pine will not only help to protect the species but will also safeguard its continued survival. In addition, every purchase you make through Wollemi Australia also helps Conservation Volunteers Australia!
