Environmental Recovery

Conservation Volunteers is continuing to rebuild our environment after the devastating 2011 natural disasters. We are  into the recovery phase, which requires ongoing resources to continue the massive relief effort and assistance to affected farmers, communities and environments.

Testimonials

"We had a great experience! The project was well organised, with great CVA staff, a great team and our great leader Geoff. It was very satisfying work where we not only gained new skills such as fencing, but it was good to be able to help those who have been devastated by the floods."

Rio Tinto supporting the flood recovery

We would like to acknowledge and thank Rio Tinto for their support of our Victorian flood recovery program. Conservation Volunteers and Rio Tinto have been working together for almost 20 years to deliver important environmental programs and improve the standards of conservation volunteer management in Australia. We are very grateful to Rio Tinto for their financial support, as it allows us to develop and run the many programs that assist in the flood recovery.

"It's been fantastic to get teams of volunteers out on the ground providing assistance and we couldn't have done this without the generous support of Rio Tinto." says Conservation Volunteers CEO Colin Jackson. "As a longtime partner of CVA, Rio Tinto understand the importance of practical action in assisting people to maintain biodiversity and conservation values."

The recovery programs that we are running include:

  •     Fencing removal and repair
  •     Track clearing and maintenance
  •     Repair works and cleaning up of previous revegetation sites
  •     Erosion repair and control
  •     Native planting
  •     Early intervention in weed seed spread

Based on our experience assisting recovery programs after the Black Saturday Bushfires in Victoria, we are identifying and assisting projects via the appropriate Natural Resource Management Bodies, Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority, North Central Catchment Authority, Parks Victoria and Department of Sustainability and Environment in association with respective Community Recovery Committees who are progressively assessing the damage and determining immediate and long-term needs.
