NRMA Motoring &Services

NRMA Motoring and Services , in partnership with Conservation Volunteers Australia supports the Wild Futures program, and is helping to create habitat for the threatened Superb Parrot in New South Wales.
Superb Parrots are threatened by removal of hollow bearing trees and clearing other woodland vegetation. The poor levels of natural regeneration of their habitat add to the pressure of habitat loss.
The 5-year goal of the program is to rebuild a large area of habitat to maintain a population of Superb Parrots in the Koorawatha area, near Cowra (4 hour journey from Sydney).
Most recently, NRMA sent a team of staff volunteers to the area where they worked over 2 days to carry out a range of conservation activities and painting and renovating the homestead on the property which houses volunteers to the area.
In 2010, we are planning another trip to the Cowra area to continue our rehabilitation activities as well as conservation activities in the Western Sydney are with our staff volunteers.
Despite over 30 years of effort by the environment movement, many of Australia's unique plants and wildlife are in peril. Climate change has reminded us that this is a problem for everybody and the responsibility for action rests with all of us. It is now critical that we all connect with and learn to value species and ecosystems such as those that support the Superb Parrot.
We value the support of NRMA at Koorawatha, not just for the conservation work that is being achieved, but also for the leadership it demonstrates to other corporations who are often reluctant to get out of the city and lend assistance in these critical rural areas."
