Activity Rating

Medium fitness level is recommended, projects involve hands on activities and walking on average up to 3 kilometres each day through bushland on unmarked tracks.

Maximum 10  people
Minimum age for participation is 14 yrs of age. 
Participants under 16 are to be accompanied by an adult.

Departure is guaranteed, subject to 3 people travelling

Program Location

Hamilton Community Parklands Eastern Barred Bandicoot Captive Recovery Site and Southern Grampians National Park.

Accommodation

House featuring panoramic views of Mt Sturgeon, four bedrooms (linen provided), two bathrooms, lounge and kitchen. Double / twin or single room’s available with shared bathroom facilities.

Contribution To Conservation

Between 4-6 hours each day will be spend out in the field. The Eastern Barred Bandicoot monitoring is managed by the Department of Sustainability and Environment and Eastern Barred Bandicoot Recovery Team. Activities involve; setting traps, walking along transects in the bush too check traps, assisting to process data on mammals (such as trap site, time, weight, gender, health checks, microchipping), resetting traps and cleaning traps.

Program Travel

Drive time from Melbourne is approximately 4 hours in a 2WD ten seater, air conditioned minivan.

Itinerary

Day 1 Travel to Hamilton Community Parklands captive bandicoot recovery site for an overview on the project, before assisting to set and bait traps. LD

Day 2 Participate in Eastern Barred Bandicoot monitoring activities including checking traps, processing wildlife, data recording and resetting traps.   BLD

Day 3 In the morning assist with Eastern Barred Bandicoot monitoring before lunch and our return journey to Melbourne.  Expected arrival time is 5.30pm. BL
