BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance
BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is Australia's largest coal producer and a leader in the international coal industry, accounting for more than a quarter of Australia's annual coal exports and 28% of the world's seaborne trade in metallurgical coal.
Together with Conservation Volunteers they have formed the BMA Community Partnerships Program – designed to reinforce BMA’s commitment to those communities where BMA has business interests.
The Community Partnerships Program provides support within six broad categories including youth support, community welfare and the environment. Over recent years, the BMA and Conservation Volunteers have delivered successful schools education programs, in particular the ‘What a Load of Rubbish’ program, across central Queensland in 2002-2003.
More recently, Conservation Volunteers and BMA have worked together on the Natural Pathways program. Natural Pathways has been developed to provide opportunities for young people with mild physical, intellectual or psychiatric disabilities to work on environmental projects around the Mackay region.
The program also provides accredited training and work experience outcomes; along with an opportunity to work outdoors with other volunteers in an inclusive, equal and encouraging environment.
