River Paramedics
River Paramedics is an initiative of Conservation Volunteers and the Coal and Allied Community Trust addressing the degradation of rivers within the Upper and Mid Hunter Catchments, News South Wales. The program is supported by Landcare and the NSW Department of Infrastructure , Planning and Natural Resources.
Since 2003, River Paramedics has involved the community in restoring important riparian habitats within the Upper Hunter region, carrying out revegetation, bush regeneration, weed removal, mulching, water quality monitoring and community education.
Landholders and community groups along the Hunter and Paterson Rivers have received significant ‘hands-on’ assistance from volunteers including local residents, Scouts, Girl Guides, Muswellbrook High School students and Maitland High School students. This broader community involvement has raised awareness within the community of the importance of their local catchments and river environments and the vital role they play.
