Wild Futures - Southern Brown Bandicoot

This secretive creature is an important part of the Australian ecosystem.  Southern Brown Bandicoots (Isoodon obesulus) play an important role in forest and scrubland habitats, recycling nutrients and spreading native seeds and fungi.  Once common in the landscape and widespread across south-eastern Australia, Southern Brown Bandicoots are now listed as nationally endangered due to threats from introduced predators and habitat loss. They are now only found in small populations throughout southern Australia.

Conservation Volunteers is supporing an extensive monitoring program to gather important population data about Southern Brown Bandiocoots.

You can assist with this project in the Adelaide Hills and in Victoria's south-west or donate to lend your finanial assistance to the Wild Futures program and ensure that this bandicoot continues to be a vital part of the forest.
