GREECE
Ancient Olympia is one of the most important sanctuaries of antiquity, dedicated to the father of gods, Zeus. It is also the birth place of the Olympic Games that began in 776 B.C. The Sanctuary of Olympia spreads around the foot of the Kronion Hill, where the rivers Alpheios and Kladeos meet. The area is of great natural beauty, with lush vegetation, idyllic rivers, stunning beaches and picturesque villages. The team of volunteers from Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) will assist with the reconstruction of a footpath along the Kladeos River. Kladeos flows just outside the archaeological site of Ancient Olympia – It is a historical river, depicted on the southern pediment of the Temple of Zeus.
