Spend your
European Summer in Northern Italy! This program offers a great balance of cultural and conservation
activities, sure to give you a taste of the best things Italy has to offer.
During the
first week participants will be assisting with the renewal of an urban reserve
in the quaint historic town of Carignano. Carignano is a small village
approx 20mins via car from Turin. The region of Piemonte is well
known for vineyards, medieval castles and its picturesque views of the
bordering Alps.
The reserve
is part of an ongoing community project to establish green spaces for people to
enjoy the outdoors, project activities at the reserve will include trail maintenance,
tree planting, weed removal, construction of fences and park benches.
From
Carignano the team will travel to Santa Sophia in the region of Emilia Romagna.
Its capital Bologna, is famous for its monuments, museums,
and boasts the countries first ever fruit and vegetable market. In Santa Sophia
the volunteers will be assisting with the restoration of a 200 year old walking
path. The path runs throughout the city and into suburb areas. The maintenance
of the trail will involve clearing trees and plants, compacting dirt paths and
maintenance of the stone wall which lines the trail.
Accommodation
in Carignano is in a restored police station and in Santa Sophia the team will
be accommodated in an old Roman villa; both locations are reflective of the
time, elegance and spectacular architecture of ancient roman history.
On the menu
each day you can expect to enjoy some of Italy’s most known dishes, spaghetti,
rissotto, expresso coffee and even a yummy gelato and the end of the day!
Our Italian
hosts from Giovani Insieme are very friendly and welcoming of the
volunteers, in addition to the conservation activities your hosts Daniela,
Paola and Luisa will ensure you have the opportunity to visit local tourist
attractions, enjoy meals with local families, and also have some spare time to soak
in some of the European sunshine.
