CONSERVATION ACTion, ACT
Namadgi National Park and Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve join the northern section of Kosciusko National Park; together they form the northern part of the Australian Alps. Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve provides habitat for a range or native fauna including 164 bird species, a variety of reptiles, fish and amphibians and a diversity of mammals. It also plays an important role in captive wildlife management, in particular the captive breeding program for the endangered
Northern Corroboree Frog and the Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby. Namadgi National Park has a wide range of plants many of which are found only in Australia’s alpine and sub-alpine environment. The mountains of Namadgi
support substantial area of sphagnum bog. These areas are important for biodiversity, supporting species not found elsewhere, such as the endangered Northern Corroberree Frog. The region is also known for its rich Aboriginal and European history.
This program provides an opportunity to experience the natural side of Australia’s Capital Territory. Working alongside scientists you will take part in endangered species recovery programs. Project activities will primarily focus around the Northern Corroboree frog breeding program including the location
and collection of eggs, and the Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby recovery program.
