Day 1 – Hobart / Cradle Mountain

Travel from Hobart to the World Heritage Listed Cradle Mountain National Park. The region provides pristine habitats for a range of plants and animals that are found nowhere else in the world, including many rare and endangered species. Overnight Cradle Mountain. (LD)

Day 2 – Cradle Mountain National Park

Spend the day exploring Cradle Mountain National Park on a guided walk. There is also an opportunity to experience the local wildlife at night. Overnight Cradle Mountain. (BLD)

Day 3 – Cradle Mountain / Liffey Valley

Travel from Cradle Mountain to the Australian Bush Heritage Fund’s Liffey River Reserve.  The Reserve is a beautiful temperate rainforest located on the edge of the Tasmanian Central Plateau World Heritage Area.  The area is a haven for many species of wildlife including pygmy possums, Tasmanian devils, bandicoots and platypus. At least 60 bird species are also present such as the rare white goshawk and threatened tasmanian wedge-tailed eagle, yellow-tailed black cockatoo, boobook owl and pink robin . Enjoy a walk around this special Reserve. You will assist with the implementation of a long term management program designed to reduce the impact of non native plant species, and monitor the success of these recovery projects.   Activities will include hands on conservation activities including habitat restoration and possible flora surveys. Day 4 – Liffey Valley / Coles Bay

You have the option to join an early morning search for platypus before our guided walk to Liffey Falls. In the afternoon travel to Coles Bay a beautiful coastal township on the East Coast. Enjoy a short walk and spectacular sunsets. Overnight Coles Bay. (BLD)

 

Day 5 – Douglas Apsley National Park / Bicheno

Enjoy a day in the picturesque coastal township of Bicheno, renowned for its penguin population and marine mammals including whales.  Visit the Blow Hole and walk along the beautiful coastline or through Douglas Apsley National Park. Assist with local habitat restoration projects to protect local species and penguins.  The regeneration programs aims to gradually remove invasive weeds and increase native habitat. Bicheno foreshore is home to a penguin rookery which extends around the township. In the early evening, we undertake penguin surveys  to assist Parks and Wildlife Service with ongoing foreshore management. This data is also used to gain a greater insight into the colony’s activities including information on the numbers and activities of the Bicheno penguin population  Overnight Coles Bay. Day 6 – Freycinet National Park / Hobart

                                                                                                                  

Visit Freycinet National Park and take in the spectacular views across Wineglass Bay. Enjoy a guided walk and stroll along one of the world’s best beaches, Wineglass beach. In the afternoon we return to Hobart city arriving at approximately 6.30pm. (B L)
