Shearwater Research
Montague Island is a gazetted Nature Reserve, with high environmental values and a significant cultural history.
The Montague Island Shearwater Study is one of the longest running Seabird monitoring programs in the world. The study has become an important monitoring program measuring the annual productivity of Shearwaters.
You will be working alongside scientists and actively participating in the research activities. Project activities will include checking the Shearwater burrows and identifying, weighing, measuring and banding any chicks and adult birds present. You will also explore the Island, view the resident Seal colony and visit the Island lighthouse museum and operating lighthouse. This program is operated in conjunction with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
